What is an APA file?
An APA file (with the .apa extension) is a compressed project file created by RSView, used for developing Human Machine Interface (HMI) applications. Since it’s stored in an archive format, the file size is smaller, making it easy to transfer between computers. You can even extract its contents - such as graphics, databases, macros, alarms, and project settings-using standard decompression tools. To open and work with an APA file, you’ll need Rockwell Automation’s RSView Studio or RSView ME software. These programs let you restore the project, modify it if needed, and then compile it into a runnable .MER file for deployment on an HMI device. Essentially, APA files act as handy backups and simplify sharing projects across different workstations.
APA File Format - More Information
The RSView application manager saves the .apa files by default to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\RSView Enterprise\ME\Archives location on Windows XP. However, you can save the file to any directory as per requirement.
