What is a PICT file?
A PICT file is a a graphics image saved in the Apple Macintosh picture file format. It can store image data as both raster and vector file formats. It was default picture file format for Apple QuickDraw programme. PICT files allow the exchange of raster as well as vector data between Mac applications. The format has long been replaced by the more flexible PDF file format. PICT files are sometimes found with .PCT extension.

PICT files are saved as binary image files that can be opened with applications such as XnView, GIMP, Corel PaintShop Pro, and Apple Preview. It supports single channel image (with 8 colors storage capability) or color channel RGB images that can store thousand of colors. These are known as PICT 1 and PICT 2 file formats respectively.
