A P3T file is a theme file for Sony PlayStation 3 (PS3) video game system. It contains graphical user interface (GUI) elements e.g. background images, icons, fonts etc. that are used to customize the look and feel of PS3’s XrossMediaBar (XMB) interface.
How to install P3T theme?

- Plug USB drive into your PS3.
- From PS3’s XMB interface, navigate to Settings > Theme Settings > Theme Install.

It is worth noting that P3T files are no longer supported by latest PlayStation systems and are exclusive to the PS3.
What does P3T file contain?
A P3T file contains resources used for customizing graphical user interface (GUI) of Sony PlayStation 3 (PS3) video game system. It typically includes following types of resources:
- Background images: These are images that are used as background for the PS3’s XrossMediaBar (XMB) interface which is the main menu system for PS3.
- Icons: These are small graphical elements that represent different items on XMB such as games, videos, music and settings.
- Fonts: A P3T file may also include custom fonts that are used for displaying text on the XMB.
- Sounds: Some P3T files may also contain custom sounds that are used for system notifications and other audio effects.
All of these resources are packaged together in P3T file which can then be installed on the PS3 to customize the appearance of XMB interface. Once installed, the new theme will replace default theme on the PS3 giving it a fresh and personalized look.
What is the format of P3T file?
The P3T file format is a proprietary format used by Sony for theme files on PlayStation 3 (PS3) video game system. The file format is essentially a ZIP archive that contains set of resources including images, icons and sounds that are used to customize the look and feel of PS3’s XrossMediaBar (XMB) interface.
The P3T file format is based on Open Container Format (OCF) and uses ZIP compression algorithm to compress and archive theme resources. The file extension “.p3t” is used to indicate that the file is a PS3 theme file.
To create or modify P3T files, specialized software is required such as the official PS3 Theme Builder application provided by Sony. There are also third-party tools available that can be used to create custom P3T files but these tools are not officially supported by Sony and may not be compatible with all PS3 systems or firmware versions.
