What is an AZW1 file?
The AZW1 is an eBook file format which is also known as Amazon Kindle Topaz eBook that has been launched via Whispernet. This file format can be used with Kindle software on PCs and smartphones and it is responsible for storing downloaded eBooks from Amazon’s 3G Whispernet network.
AZW1 File Format
The Amazon Kindle book reader devices and the software use AZW1 format files having a .azw1 extension. These files are also known as Amazon Topaz eBook files, these AZW1 files are used to assemble and manage downloaded parts of Amazon Kindle eBook files from the 3G Whispernet network of Amazon. The Amazon Kindle software can be installed on a Microsoft Windows based system to execute support for these AZW1 files and the relevant features which are integrated into the application. The versions of this program for Mac environments are also available. This software is usually used to start downloading and viewing the content of these Amazon Kindle books. Since the Amazon Kindle application provides support for AZW1 files and can also be installed in these two well-known systems, the creators can easily create and properly share Kindle books.
What is the format of AZW1?
AZW1 files are essentially containers that store the content of the eBook, including text, images and metadata. The format is proprietary to Amazon and uses a compression method that is designed to save bandwidth when transferring files over Whispernet.
What is Whispernet?
Whispernet is Amazon’s proprietary wireless network service that allows Kindle devices and apps to download eBooks, magazines and other content directly from the Amazon store or Amazon Cloud. It works through 3G (and previously EVDO) mobile networks, enabling users to wirelessly download content without needing a Wi-Fi connection. Whispernet has largely become obsolete for most modern Kindle devices.
